OU redshirt junior quarterback John Mateer will start against Texas, per Toby Rowland.
Mateer returns after suffering a fractured right hand during OU’s 24-17 win over Auburn. Mateer was listed as “questionable” in the Southeastern Conference injury report on Wednesday and upgraded to “probable” on Thursday before being cleared. Hours before kickoff time, he was removed from the injury report entirely.
While Mateer was sidelined, sophomore quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. led the Sooners to a 44-0 win over Kent State with 162 yards and three touchdowns.
Before his injury, Mateer threw for 1,215 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 190 and five through four games.
OU (5-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) will kick off against Texas (3-2, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) at 2:30 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas on ABC.
