Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton has died at the age of 79, People first reported Saturday.

The legendary actress, known for her roles in “Annie Hall” and “The Godfather,” among many others, died in California, a family spokesperson told the publication. The spokesperson did not release further details.

Born in Los Angeles in 1946, Keaton was the oldest of four siblings. In 1972, director Francis Ford Coppola cast Keaton as Kay Adams, the girlfriend of Al Pacino’s Michael Corleone in “The Godfather” and its 1974 sequel.

Keaton also appeared in a number of movies directed by Woody Allen, including “Play It Again Sam” in 1972, “Sleeper” in 1973, and “Love and Death” in 1975. But it was Keaton’s 1977 title role in “Annie Hall” that won her the Oscar.

Keaton continued to star in hit films for years, winning a Golden Globe in 2003 for her performance in “Something’s Gotta Give.”

Keaton never married, and was outspoken about not wanting to date.

“I don’t remember anyone calling me, going, ‘This is So-and-So. I’d like to take you out,’” she told AARP: The Magazine in 2023. “They don’t happen. Of course not.”

In a 2019 profile of Keaton in The New York Times, the actress said one of her latest favorite pastimes was going on long strolls by herself and taking photos of abandoned storefronts.

“You can see sadness, but you can also look at the attempts that they made when they were selling whatever they were selling,” she told the publication. “One place will look like one thing, and another, you could tell that it had clothes or some sort of fashion with it. It’s fascinating for me.”

Tributes were already starting to pour in on Saturday for Keaton following the news of her death. Actor Ben Stiller posted on social media, calling Keaton “one of the greatest film actors ever.”

“An icon of style, humor and comedy,” Stiller added. “Brilliant. What a person.”

She is survived by her two children, Dexter, 29, and Duke, 25.
