We’ve reached the midway point of the 2025 SEC football season, and there are only two unbeaten teams left in the conference.

Ole Miss and Texas A&M remain undefeated, though Texas and Alabama both took major strides this past Saturday toward the top of the conference pecking order. The Longhorns and Crimson Tide both knocked off previously unbeaten, Texas overpowering Oklahoma and Alabama edging Missouri.

Elsewhere, Auburn continued its slide, with both Georgia and the officiating taking part of the blame. The Tigers are among three SEC teams still looking for their first conference wins of the year.

So how do the teams in the SEC stack up heading into Week 7 of the 2025 season? Here’s the latest edition of AL.com’s SEC football power rankings for 2025 (all times Central and all games Saturday unless noted):

Arkansas Tennessee Football

16. Arkansas (2-4, 0-2)

Last week’s ranking: 16

Last week’s game: Lost to Tennessee, 34-31

This week’s game: vs. Texas A&M, 2:30 p.m., ESPN

Bobby Petrino’s debut as interim head coach was entertaining, but it never looked like the Razorbacks really had a chance to win. Arkansas moved the ball and scored points like always, but was undone by five sacks and three turnovers, plus a turnover on downs late in the third quarter. Defense continued to be a problem after widespread staff changes, as Tennessee rang up 273 rushing yards and averaged 7.3 yards per carry. The Hogs continue to search for their first SEC win against unbeaten Texas A&M, which makes its first visit to Fayetteville to 2013 after several years of playing this game at Jerry World in Arlington, Texas.

Kentucky Georgia Football

15. Kentucky (2-3, 0-3)

Last week’s ranking: 15

Last week’s game: Open date

This week’s game: vs. Texas, 6 p.m., ESPN

The Wildcats spent their bye week looking for answers on both offense and defense, where they rank 14th and 15th, respectively in the SEC through their first five games. Cutter Boley seems likely to stay at quarterback heading into Saturday’s game at Texas, which appeared to find its identity this past Saturday while Kentucky rested. Mark Stoops’ team hosts Tennessee the following week, so things aren’t likely to get a lot better.

Georgia Auburn Football
Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold (11) flips over Georgia linebacker CJ Allen (3) and linebacker Raylen Wilson (5) during the first half of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, in Auburn, Ala. (AP Photo/Butch Dill)AP

14. Auburn (3-3, 0-3)

Last week’s ranking: 14

Last week’s game: Lost to Georgia, 20-10

This week’s game: vs. Missouri, 6:45 p.m., SEC Network

The Tigers had Georgia on the ropes for most of the first half on Saturday, before a questionable — but not quite outrageous — call on the goal-line seemed to completely reverse the momentum of the game. Jackson Arnold may or may not have scored on the play, but his “fumble” without question was a complete gut punch for Auburn. Hugh Freeze once again had no answers in the second half of an SEC game, the third straight in which his team put up little or no fight after halftime. As we enter the second half of Freeze’s third season, we’re left to wonder if things are going to get any better on the Plains under the current regime. We may get an answer on Saturday, when feisty, physical Missouri team — fresh off a near-miss against Alabama over the weekend — visits Jordan-Hare.

South Carolina LSU Football

13. South Carolina (3-3, 1-3)

Last week’s ranking: 12

Last week’s game: Lost to LSU, 20-10

This week’s game: vs. Oklahoma, 11:45 a.m., SEC Network

The Gamecocks’ defense secured three turnovers and posted perhaps their best effort of the season on Saturday night in Baton Rouge, but once again the incompetent offense was not up to the task of taking advantage. South Carolina drove into LSU territory six times, failing to score on four of them. LaNorris Sellers, a Heisman candidate entering the season, looks like just another quarterback in Mike Shula’s offense. The Gamecocks fired offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley on Sunday, and Shula might not be far behind. Oklahoma, which might have the best defensive front in the country, visits Columbia this week.

Florida Texas A M Football
Florida head coach Billy Napier calls in plays to his offense during the first quarter of an NCAA college football game against Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, in College Station, Texas. (AP Photo/Sam Craft)AP

12. Florida (2-4, 1-2)

Last week’s ranking: 13

Last week’s game: Lost to Texas A&M, 34-17

This week’s game: vs. Mississippi State, 3:15 p.m., SEC Network

The Gators were unable to spring a second straight upset over an SEC team from Texas, getting outscored 20-3 after the first quarter in College Station on Saturday night. Billy Napier is now 0-14 on the road against ranked opponents. With Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee still left on the schedule, this week’s game with Mississippi State — which is coming off a bye week — is a must-win for both Florida’s 2025 bowl hopes and Napier’s coaching future.

11. Mississippi State (4-2, 0-2)

Last week’s ranking: 10

Last week’s game: Open date

This week’s game: at Florida, 3:15 p.m., SEC Network

The Bulldogs got good news on star running back Fluff Bothwell, who is expected to return at some point this season after suffering what first appeared to be a major injury last time out vs. Texas A&M. There’s not yet a timeline for Bothwell’s return, but it seems unlikely he’ll be ready to play on Saturday in Gainesville. State has lost back-to-back games after a 4-0 start, and still hasn’t won an SEC game since Oct. 21, 2023, at Arkansas. Jeff Lebby’s team faces the Razorbacks in Fayetteville on Nov. 1, but might have at least a decent shot to break their conference slide two weeks earlier than that in the Swamp.

Vanderbilt v Alabama
Diego Pavia (2) of the Vanderbilt Commodores throws a pass during the first quarter of a football game against the Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium on October 4, 2025 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. (Photo by Butch Dill/Getty Images)Getty Images

10. Vanderbilt (5-1, 1-1)

Last week’s ranking: 8

Last week’s game: Open date

This week’s game: vs. LSU, 11 a.m., ABC

The Commodores had their first bye week to get over the hurt of a disappointing loss in Tuscaloosa, which snapped Diego Pavia’s stranglehold over teams from the state of Alabama. Vandy is back home this week against an LSU team that remains inconsistent on offense, but allows fewer than 12 points per game. The Commodores can clinch bowl-eligibility for the second straight week with another win, but any hopes of contending for the SEC title or (gasp), a College Football Playoff berth would likely fizzle with a loss to the Tigers.

Texas Oklahoma 2025
Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer signals to the sideline during the first half of an NCAA college football game against Texas, Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, in Dallas. (AP Photo/Jeffrey McWhorter)AP

9. Oklahoma (5-1, 1-1)

Last week’s ranking: 2

Last week’s game: Lost to Texas, 23-6

This week’s game: at South Carolina, 11:45 a.m., SEC Network

In retrospect, it was probably unwise to play quarterback John Mateer vs. Texas just 17 days after surgery on his right (throwing) thumb. The Sooners’ defense showed up as always, but three Mateer interceptions and just 48 yards rushing gave OU virtually no shot to win in the Red River Rivalry game. Brent Venables is now 1-3 vs. the Longhorns, with his team totaling just nine points in the three losses. Oklahoma should be able to beat South Carolina on Saturday with backup quarterback Michael Hawkins, so it might be a good idea to rest Mateer another week leading into an Oct. 25 visit from Ole Miss that might serve as an SEC championship elimination game.

Texas Oklahoma Football

8. Texas (4-2, 1-1)

Last week’s ranking: 11

Last week’s game: Beat Oklahoma, 23-6

This week’s game: at Kentucky 6:45 p.m., ESPN

All it took was a convincing win over their most-important rival to restore good feeling for the Longhorns, who seemed somewhat competent on offense for the first time this season against high-level competition. Arch Manning had his best game of the season relative to the opponent, accounting for just one touchdown, but not making the killer mistakes that plagued him in losses to Ohio State and Florida. Texas’ defense was also outstanding, totaling five sacks and three interceptions while limiting Oklahoma to just a pair of field goals. Even on the road, Kentucky should provide a bit of a breather for Steve Sarkisian’s team, which then has Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and a bye week before traveling to Georgia in mid-November.

Alabama Missouri 2025
Missouri offensive lineman Connor Tollison walks off the field as Alabama players celebrate behind after an NCAA college football game Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, in Columbia, Mo. (AP Photo/L.G. Patterson)AP

7. Missouri (5-1, 1-1)

Last week’s ranking: 5

Last week’s game: Lost to Alabama, 27-24

This week’s game: at Auburn, 6:45 p.m., SEC Network

The Tigers took the lead against Alabama for the first time since joining the SEC, and had multiple chances to pull of their first win over the Crimson Tide in 50 years. But Eli Drinkwitz and his team aren’t concerned with moral victories at this stage. Missouri’s defense kept it in the game, but the offense didn’t run the ball with the authority it had displayed all season and Beau Pribula threw two killer interceptions. After six straight home games to open the season, Mizzou hits the road for the first time at Auburn on Saturday night. Hugh Freeze’s Tigers are reeling right now, but Jordan-Hare remains a difficult place to play.

South Carolina LSU Football
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier (18) passes in the first half of an NCAA college football game against South Carolina, Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025 in Baton Rouge, La. (AP Photo/Gerald Herbert)AP

6. LSU (5-1, 2-1)

Last week’s ranking: 8

Last week’s game: Beat South Carolina, 20-10

This week’s game: at Vanderbilt, 11 a.m., ABC

The Tigers continue to have all kinds of issues scoring, averaging just 19 points in their four games against power-conference competition. On Saturday at South Carolina, it was three turnovers — two at the goal line — that kept LSU from winning more comfortably. It’s possible that this will just be a team carried by its defense, which faces a difficult task against the always difficult-to-contain Diego Pavia and Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Arkansas Tennessee Football

5. Tennessee (5-1, 2-1)

Last week’s ranking: 7

Last week’s game: Beat Arkansas, 34-31

This week’s game: at Alabama, 6:30 p.m., ABC

The Volunteers’ three SEC games have been decided by a total of 13 points, in which they have allowed an average of 36 points per game. Tennessee turned on the gas long enough to pull away from Arkansas in the third quarter on Saturday (the Razorbacks scored two late touchdowns to make it look closer than it was), but a fourth-quarter collapse vs. Georgia and game-long struggles vs. Mississippi State and the Hogs have people concerned in Knoxville. The Vols run the ball very well, but Alabama held Missouri’s SEC-best rushing attack in check this past weekend. Top running back Desean Bishop was injured in the second half vs. Arkansas, a situation that bears watching as the Vols head to Tuscaloosa on Saturday night.

Georgia Auburn Football

4. Georgia (5-1, 3-1)

Last week’s ranking: 6

Last week’s game: Beat Auburn, 20-10

This week’s game: vs. Ole Miss, 2:30 p.m., ABC

Whatever switch was flipped following the controversial goal-line fumble for Auburn just before the half on Saturday is something that Kirby Smart should look into instilling in his team for 60 minutes one of these days. The Bulldogs have looked like world beaters in the second half of their SEC games this year, which was good enough to win vs. Tennessee and Auburn, but not against Alabama. Ole Miss, one of only two unbeaten teams remaining in the SEC, visits Athens on Saturday. If Georgia can beat the Rebels, it would enter its second bye week in very good position for yet another trip to Atlanta for the SEC championship game. (As an aside, Smart clearly lied to the officials — and got away with it — when he claimed he was clapping rather than calling a timeout during the interminable latter moments of the first half on Saturday. We’ll see if he faces any sort of punishment, perhaps a fine, from the league office for a blatant attempt to deceive the officials.)

Ole Miss vs. Washington State 2025
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss (6) throws a pass as Washington State linebacker Caleb Francl (9) defends during the first half of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, in Oxford, Miss. (AP Photo/Rogelio V. Solis)AP

3. Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0)

Last week’s ranking: 1

Last week’s game: Beat Washington State, 24-21

This week’s game: at Georgia, 2:30 p.m., ABC

In retrospect, we should have recognized a trap game when we saw one, falling smack dab as it did between SEC showdowns with LSU and Georgia. Still, a Washington State team that had given up 59 points in each of its two previous games should have been no threat against the Rebels at home. And yet, Ole Miss needed every bit of three quarters to take control of the game vs. the Wildcats. Trinidad Chambliss was once against excellent at quarterback, and seems to have given Lane Kiffin no reason to make a switch back to original starter Austin Simmons even when he’s healthy. The Rebels now travel to Georgia, whom they humbled 28-10 a year ago in Oxford. Kirby Smart has no doubt had this one circled for a while, and it will take more consistency and discipline than Ole Miss has shown the last two weeks to score a second straight victory over the Bulldogs.

Alabama Missouri 2025
Alabama running back Daniel Hill, right, celebrates his touchdown with Danny Lewis Jr., (87) during the second half an NCAA college football game against Missouri, Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, in Columbia, Mo. (AP Photo/L.G. Patterson)AP

2. Alabama (5-1, 3-0)

Last week’s ranking: 4

Last week’s game: Beat Missouri, 27-24

This week’s game: vs. Tennessee, 6:30 p.m., ABC

The Crimson Tide has beaten a ranked opponent in three straight weeks, something it did only once in 17 years under Nick Saban (in 2016). Ty Simpson continues to move to the top of the Heisman Trophy discussion, but Alabama’s overall offense and defense remain maddeningly inconsistent. A sack/fumble just before the half turned a potential 24-7 lead into a 17-17 tie midway through the third quarter. And yet the Crimson Tide made the big plays when it needed them, just as it did in the previous two games vs. Georgia and Vanderbilt. A fourth consecutive ranked team visits Tuscaloosa on Saturday night, and brings with it what is, at least statistically, the top offense in the SEC (and definitely the best offense the Crimson Tide will play the rest of the regular season). Alabama is 10-0 at home under Kalen DeBoer, and has won 15 straight in Tuscaloosa dating to an early-September loss to Texas in Nick Saban’s final season.

Florida Texas A M Football
Texas A&M running back Jamarion Morrow (23) reacts after scoring a touchdown against Florida during the first half of an NCAA college football game Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, in College Station, Texas. (AP Photo/Sam Craft)AP

1. Texas A&M (6-0, 3-0)

Last week’s ranking: 3

Last week’s game: Beat Florida, 34-17

This week’s game: at Arkansas, 2:30 p.m., ESPN

The Aggies paid $76 million to get out from under Jimbo Fisher’s contract in 2023, but midway through Mike Elko’s second season it seems like money well-spent. Texas A&M has a dual-threat playmaker at quarterback, a collection of backs and receivers that is the envy of the entire SEC and perhaps the best offensive line in the country (they’re not bad on defense, either). The Aggies are 6-0 for the first time in 2016, and have a very good shot of getting their seventh win with a visit to Arkansas set for this weekend. It’s the first of three straight road games for A&M, which will also travel to LSU and Missouri before playing at Kyle Field again. If the Aggies can somehow win all three, they’d be a virtual lock for a College Football Playoff spot.
