A week rarely passes without Patriots quarterback Drake Maye being asked about Bill Belichick and his alma mater and the latest disaster emanating from Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
During his appearance on WEEI Monday, Maye, who starred in the Patriots 23-20 upset win over Buffalo Sunday night, was asked for a reaction to UNC being blown out by Clemson, 38-10, on Saturday.
“I tuned into the game a little bit,” Maye said. “I know it’s the first year with a new staff, and a lot of new players. I know they’ll figure it out down there.”
Under Belichick, UNC has gone 2-3 to start the season. The losses haven’t been competitive.
“I’ll support any way I can,” Maye went on. “There’s guys I know down there, and just say, ‘Hey, it’s a long season. Keep going.’ Shoot, I think it’s tough.”
Maye was not asked about a report from earlier in the day that claimed Belichick had directed the staff not to post any Patriots-related material.
Not long after the report came out, the Tar Heels X accounted post Maye highlights from the Patriots stunner over the Bills.
It was the first time Maye’s alma mater posted about him since Sept. 14.
