LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – During the recent city council meeting on Monday, October 6, councilmembers voted to accept the terms for the phase one completion at the Buena Vista Sports Complex.

Project architects and construction company representatives provided an update, stating that the project is nearing completion, with a scheduled completion date in either the first or second week of November.

Laredo City Parks Director JJ Gomez stated that rain delays have pushed back the timeline; however, the city is already focusing on the next phase of the project.

“It was five amenities that were left off from phase one. Council addressed for us to come up with a design and the cost of these five different things to finish up phase one of what was originally presented. However, we were only able to do the 10 multipurpose fields, the two soccer fields and two concession stands, which is good. That is about 90%-92% complete,” Gomez said.

He mentioned that they are currently working on hiring around 18 staff members for the complex.
