GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – During times of uncertainty, nonprofits can struggle when trying to receive funds.

Thankfully, two local organizations stepped in to help fund Choice Family Healthcare so they can continue their program to help identify and reduce STIs.

The Bud & Gloria Wolbach Foundation as well as the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation are giving financial support to the central Nebraska nonprofit.

It means a lot to Executive Director Ryan King to have other organizations help pitch in to make this possible.

“It’s a big deal for us,” said King. “Not only the dollars to help support the program, it really just tells me and it tells our staff about the work that they’re doing everyday and that it matters.”

They not only help assist with STI testing, but they also provide breast and cervical screening, women’s annual exams, basic infertility services, preconception health services, and more.

“We are a title ten family planning clinic,” said King said. “The bulk of our services circle around providing healthcare access to low-income individuals and families.”

King said nonprofits across the country, including in Grand Island, are facing challenges with grants they use up in the air in terms of if they will or won’t get funding.

He said the one for the STI program had went away leading to the community stepping up to help with both foundations helping the nonprofit.

The organization continues to seek out additional grants and other funding sources to support their work.
