SENECA, Kan. (KCTV) – Beckett Holthaus has been through more challenges in his nine years than most people face in a lifetime, but the Seneca, Kansas, native isn’t letting anything slow him down on the playing field.
Born with two rare limb differences affecting his hip and leg, Beckett had his foot and ankle amputated when he turned 1.
Today, he’s an active athlete who plays multiple sports thanks to a specially designed prosthetic from Shriners Children’s St. Louis.
“I play football. I play a little bit of basketball.” Beckett said. “I used to play soccer. I do wrestling without my leg and baseball. Love baseball.”
The die-hard Chiefs fan knew the exact design he wanted on his latest prosthetic: Chiefs logos, pennants and helmets.
“They got a really good coach, and go Patrick!” Beckett said, referring to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“This one is actually relatively pretty new and for Beckett, he’s growing,” his mom Jenn said. “He had a huge growth spurt over the summer.”
With his custom prosthetic, Beckett is able to run just like his favorite Chiefs player, running back Isiah Pacheco.
“It’s just inspiring,” Jenn said. “Nothing slows him down. He has such a good head on his shoulders and he’s very confident in his abilities. And I think people see that and respond to that.
“It just touches my mom heart. It really does because other people see the qualities that I see every day.”
