For the 121st time, OU and Texas will meet in Dallas for the Red River Rivalry.
OU’s starting quarterback remains uncertain as redshirt junior quarterback John Mateer continues his rehab from a recent hand surgery. Sophomore backup quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. started last week against Kent State, throwing three touchdowns in the Sooners’ 44-0 win. Hawkins also started against Texas last year, completing 19 of 30 passes for 148 yards in a 34-3 loss.
Offensively, wide receiver Isaiah Sategna (359 receiving yards), redshirt senior wide receiver Deion Burks (275), and senior tight end Jaren Kanak (328) have been productive targets, while freshman running back Tory Blaylock leads the Sooners with 257 rushing yards.
Redshirt junior linebacker Kip Lewis leads the team with 25 sacks, followed by junior linebacker Sammy Omosigho with 21 and sophomore defensive lineman David Stone with 19. OU enters the game undefeated and ranked No. 6 in the AP Poll, led by a defense that ranks at the top nationally in tackles for loss and sacks.
Texas comes in at 3-2 after a 29-21 road loss at Florida. The Longhorns totaled 341 yards and threw two interceptions. Quarterback Arch Manning has thrown for 1,151 yards on the season with a 60% completion rate.
With the Golden Hat on the line, Saturday’s game will feature a matchup between OU’s nationally ranked defense and Texas’ effort to rebound on offense.
