As the Toronto Blue Jays head to the World Series, emotions are high among people who love the team — including both regular, everyday fans and celebrities. Monday night’s game saw lots of celebration in Toronto, as the Jays made a comeback and earned a hard-fought win against the Seattle Mariners.
If you have yet to catch up, the Jays won a Game 7 victory in the American League Championship Series, earning a spot in the World Series for the first time since 1993. Now, the Canadian team will prepare to take on Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers, starting this weekend.
But before we get into the upcoming mayhem, let’s take a look at some of the celebrities who are big fans of the Jays. From Drake to Justin Bieber, these are some of the stars who haven’t been shy about their love for the Toronto Blue Jays.
1. Drake
He wouldn’t be the (self-proclaimed) 6ix God if he weren’t a major fan of the Jays. The rapper was full of energy after the Jays proved victorious in Game 7 on Monday night. The “Nice For What” artist recorded his watch party and posted a video with the caption, “Big show it’s up 6ers.”
He also shared an Instagram post with the caption “World Series Bound,” adding the song “OK Blue Jays” by Zeus to his update on Oct. 20. In the throwback snapshot from 2021, he’s reportedly having dinner with TV personality Johanna Leia at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
2. Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne threw the first pitch during a game on June 3, 2009, when the Jays took on the Los Angeles Angels in Toronto. In 2011, the pop-punk singer shared she started pitching for her high school team while growing up in Napanee, Ont.
3. Geddy Lee
Rush frontman Geddy Lee has been a fan of the Jays since their inception in 1977, and he was close to all the action on Monday night in Toronto. The lead singer has even been seen following along to games with a scorecard in hand, and he was selected to throw the first pitch during a game in April 2013.
4. The Weeknd
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has been a longtime fan of the Jays — at least according to one photo from the 1990s. When the Toronto-bred artist was performing the halftime show at the Super Bowl in 2021, the Jays shared a post on social media of him as a child sporting a T-shirt from the team.
Earlier this October, the “Starboy” singer made a joint post with the official Jays Instagram account, sharing a video with “city on fire” as the caption.
Punjabi Canadian rapper Nav showed his love to his hometown’s team after their win on Monday night. The “Myself” artist shared the team’s victory announcement post on his Instagram Stories, and commented three raising hands emojis in celebration.
The Jays have also shared their own love for the Rexdale, Ont.-born rapper in the past. In August, the team shared a video and photo gallery, where they gifted him his own jersey.
6. Eugene Levy
Like other celebrities mentioned here, Eugene Levy has often attended Jays games. For years, the Schitt’s Creek star has been showing up to support the Jays during matches in Toronto.
7. Kate Upton
Kate Upton was photographed several years ago sporting a Jays-branded hat during a game, even though she’s married to Justin Verlander, who’s the pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.
In 2014, the model rocked a blue cap with a red maple leaf on front, posted by former Jays minor leaguer Frank Viola. “Happy 22nd bday to the most selfless and caring friend any could have! I <3 U — lucky to have u in my life!” Viola captioned the post.
8. Lauren Ash
Lauren Ash has been a Jays fan all her life, and she’s one of the celebrities on this list who’s unapologetically shown her love for the team over the years. Most recently, the Superstore alum took to her Instagram Stories to share her live reaction during Monday night’s game. In the clip, she can be seen crying in happiness, captioning the post, “Scream. Cry. Repeat. I am dying, [Blue Jays].”
Later, she posted a series of throwback photos of herself rocking Jays merchandise, as well as a clip of when she threw the ceremonial pitch. She also posted an older photo of herself as a child holding a baseball bat, where the picture was made into a trading card.
“This child could not be more excited. If you know me, you know what this means to me. Let’s go,” she captioned that post on Monday.
9. Finn Wolfhard
The Vancouver-born actor has been clear on social media about his love for the Jays. On Monday night, he took to his Instagram Stories to share an update, showing that he was watching the game on TV and tagging the team in his caption after their win.
The Jays also showed their appreciation for the Stranger Things actor in August 2023. In a social media post, the team shared a carousel of Wolfhard rocking a his own custom-made Jays jersey.
10. Summer McIntosh
Three-time Olympic swimmer Summer McIntosh spread the good luck earlier this month in Toronto. In early October, she shared a carousel of photos of herself donning a Jays jersey while posing on the city’s streets.
“Always rooting for the home team,” the Toronto-born athlete captioned her post. “Let’s go, [Blue Jays].”
11. Arkells
On Monday, Hamilton-formed band Arkells took to TikTok to share a clip from the match in Toronto. In their reaction clip, frontman Max Kerman jumped up and down in excitement from within the stands. “We all did our part,” the band captioned the post.
12. Penny Oleksiak
Canada’s most-decorated Olympian threw the ceremonial pitch during a game on Sept. 9, 2016, when the Jays took on the Boston Red Sox in Toronto. She threw the first pitch again on Sept. 18, 2021, when the Jays went up against the Minnesota Twins at the Rogers Centre.
13. Leandra Earl
Leandra Earl of Toronto band The Beaches also took to TikTok to share her support for the Jays. On Monday, she shared a clip of herself among other fans at a bar, where they celebrated with excitement.
“Nothing like watching the Jays make it to the World Series for the first time since 1993 on a day off of tour just outside Seattle,” she captioned the post.
A day before, she posted another clip wearing a Jays jersey. In the video, she acted out a break-up while also trying to pay attention to the Jays game on her phone. “POV, you’re breaking up with me, but the Jays just hit a homerun,” she wrote as on-screen text.
