Missouri is close to getting in on the sports betting action.On Wednesday, the Missouri Gaming Commission is expected to approve temporary sports betting licenses, setting the stage for wagering to go live on Dec. 1.“DraftKings and Circa…you’d be able to stay in your jammies and watch TV and make a bet,” said Jan Zimmerman, chairwoman of the Missouri Gaming Commission.Zimmerman said applicants had to meet hundreds of requirements to ensure their platforms perform properly.“The rules are not only in place to make sure that sports wagering is done legally and correctly, but it’s also to protect those consumers,” Zimmerman said.Eight casinos in the state, including Harrah’s in Kansas City and Argosy in Riverside, will have legal sportsbooks.“It’s probably going to be in the tens of millions of dollars in annual tax revenue, hundreds of millions in operator revenue, and billions total that’s placed,” said Ryan Butler, senior news editor at Covers.com.Many sports teams have also partnered with sports betting platforms, but the Chiefs are not publicly among them.“It’s interesting. So far, they haven’t picked one, and the Chiefs are in an interesting situation because they’re still figuring out where they want to put their stadium. And part of this idea is that if they move to Kansas, then they’re not going to have that opportunity,” Butler said.The next step is ensuring the apps function correctly in Missouri. The commission will inspect them and have them ready for launch by Dec. 1.Starting Monday, Nov. 17, Missourians will be able to deposit funds into online sportsbooks ahead of the launch.
