Over half a million dollars from a recent Erie Gives fundraising campaign has been distributed among 30 nonprofit organizations based in the Corry area.
A total of $484,083 was raised from community gifts during the annual giving campaign held during a 24-hour period in August. Added to that amount was $14,522.49, or 3% of what each organization raised, from the Erie Community Foundation.
Plus a $25,000 match pool from the Corry Community Foundation, also distributed among the Corry-based charities, makes a total of $523,605.49 for Corry-area organizations, according to data provided by Shelby Scouten of the Corry Community Foundation.
CCF’s prorated match covered 33% of what was given to each local charity, up to the first $5,000 in donations.
Checks for the CCF matches were given to representatives of each organization during a special presentation at the Corry YMCA on Friday.
The YMCA received the second highest amount in Erie County, coming in at $343,160 on Erie Gives Day. That was the highest donated to any Corry charity, thanks to a single anonymous donor who contributed $300,000.
“We look at that [the donation], and we don’t look at it with envious eyes,” Scouten said during the check presentation. “We look at it with pride. Where would Corry be without our Y?”
Scouten mentioned the Corry Hi-Ed as another cornerstone of the community.
Out of the local organizations, Avery’s Pawsitive Change had the most Erie Gives donors at 174, raising $13,521.
Three organizations raised more than $20,000. They are St. Thomas the Apostle Parish ($24,525), the Foundation for Sustainable Forests ($20,390) and the Corry Higher Education Council ($20,650).
Still, 13 managed to bring in more that $1,000.
In honor of its 25th anniversary, CCF continues a monthly $250 giveaway for October and November. Individuals can vote for their favorite nonprofit via CCF’s Facebook page. The organization with the most votes will receive the unrestricted funds for that month.
