PEORIA, Ill (WMBD) — Think you know Frankenstein? Think again. Clear your expectations and prepare to be amazed at this production.

Adapted from Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, this version of the show, written by Nick Dear, debuted in London, England in 2011.

This adaptation strays from the typical green monster that comes to mind when you think of Frankenstein, and instead, gives us a look at the story from The Creature’s perspective.

“[In this production] the Creature is very articulate and very intelligent and makes for some great drama,” says the show’s director Dave Montague.

Corn Stock Theatre gave WMBD an opportunity to watch the show ahead of Opening Night.

When you walk into the theatre, you’re met with a relatively unassuming stage with an old-looking wooden platform in the middle. The room is filled with eerie lighting and music that sets the tone for the show you are about to see.

The show begins with an uncomfortable, yet hauntingly beautiful scene that showcases so much talent without a single word spoken. Then you are taken on a journey of heartbreak, joy, vengeance, and love as the Creature discovers what it means to be human.

The technical elements of this show are fantastic, too. With a state-of-the-art projector and a revamped sound system featuring sound design by the show’s director, it’s easy to feel as though you’ve been transported into the show itself.

The phenomenal acting and direction, coupled with the intricate and technical elements, make this show a must-see.

Before you buy your tickets, though, be advised that this show is for mature audiences only, and you are highly encouraged to check the content warnings listed on Corn Stock’s website.

The show opens at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24 and runs through Nov. 2, with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
