TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Highland Park High School inducted two alums into the Sports Wall of Honor and one into the Hall of Fame.
Raphael Posey, class of 2000, was recognized for his athletic achievements with HP’s football and basketball teams. He racked up several accolades including 2000 City Player of the Year.
Jameel Anderson, class of ‘96, was also honored for his excellence on the court as a three year varsity basketball player who went on to play at the collegiate and eventually professional level in Mexico.
The sole Hall of Fame honoree Thomas Browne Jr., class of ’77, was praised for his career in public service. Most notably brown was appointed to the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals by governor Laura Kelly in 2020.
13 NEWS asked each inductee what valuable lesson from their time at highland park they’ve carried with them into adulthood.
“I’ve always said that I feel like sports is life’s best teacher,” Posey said. “You learn to work well with others, you learn time management, team building skills and all those things can be translated into real life.”
“Toughness,” Anderson said. “Highland Park brings toughness, grit, being mentally strong. It helped me so much in junior college, at the division I level and it helped me trying to do my pro thing, and just trying and never giving up.”
“It’s been awhile since I have been here,” Browne explained. “48 years ago I graduated from here and there’s a sign in the gymnasium that says it’s great to be a Scot and so that means a lot to me to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.”
The Hall of Fame and Sports Wall of Honor are located inside Highland Park High School’s media center and gymnasium respectively.
