AUSTIN, Minn. — For 15 years, Hormel Foods says it has empowered its production facilities by providing each with a $10,000 donation to support local relief efforts during Hunger Action Month.
Hormel says team members play a crucial role in selecting which local organizations receive these funds, ensuring the support directly benefits their communities. In September, the company extended monetary donations to 46 organizations across the U.S., reinforcing its commitment to community-driven change.
John Forsythe, vice president of operations at Hormel Foods, emphasized the importance of community involvement. “We do more than just work in these communities, we’re part of them,” Forsythe said. He highlighted that allowing team members to decide on donation allocations serves as a powerful reminder of the impact local efforts can have.
At Burke Corporation, a Hormel Foods subsidiary in Nevada, Iowa, the team split their donation between the Nevada Community Cupboard and Nevada Food at First. Andrew Sieren, Burke Corporation plant manager, expressed pride in supporting these organizations, noting their significant contributions to fighting hunger.
Hormel Foods says its community efforts are part of a larger global initiative to enhance food security. Since 2020, the company has donated over $53 million in cash and products. The company partners with nonprofits like Feeding America and Convoy of Hope, and recently launched a partnership with Share Our Strength to support the No Kid Hungry campaign.
Hormel Foods says it remains dedicated to building stronger communities by expanding access to nutritious foods, ensuring children and families receive the nourishment they need.
