Following his team’s victory over the weekend, Arizona State University football player Jordyn Tyson wore a shirt pointing to Jesus in the press conference.
Tyson wore a blue shirt with the words “Jesus Won” on it. When asked by reporters what his faith meant to him, he said, “Everything. The Bible, I look at it as the instructions to life.”
He continued on saying how vital it is for him to read the Bible. “As much as I get into the Word and learn the Word, it kind of just elevates my life in every way possible.”
As his faith continues to grow, he says his teammates have helped him out. “Diving into my faith completely, especially with guys, all of us. It’s everything to us.”
Tyson also shared how important prayer is. “Pray to God before you get on the field. So if you move off the field, why wouldn’t you praise Him as well?”
He adds, “My faith is everything. I feel like it’s the reason I took the next step this season. I feel like it’s the reason why I’m more locked in during the week, and decision-making.”
The wide receiver recently shared in an interview that as a child, he occasionally attended church. “When I was little, probably eight or nine years old, we [were] probably going every Sunday.”
He continued on saying, “I was never really into the Word; I didn’t know anything about the Word.”
Earlier this year, Tyson was baptized. “It just felt right. That’s what I truly wanted to do. I feel like my identity’s not a football player, my identity’s in Christ.”
Since being baptized, his faith has continued to grow. “I feel like He’s (Jesus) everything to me, to be honest. He’s changed my ways and my life in miraculous ways. I don’t know where I’d be without Him.”
He said that before giving his life to God, he was lost. “Jesus had his hands on me the whole time and I was just so naive to it; I just didn’t realize.”
