New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson was honored by Forbes Magazine this week as the most influential woman in sports, earning praise for her leadership and her role in hosting Super Bowl LIX.
Forbes ranked the 25 most influential women in sports, including team owners, star athletes and CEOs of some of the largest companies connected to sports.
The two teams Benson’s has owned since 2018 are valued at $8.35 billion and Benson is one of the richest people in the world with an estimated net worth of $7.9 billion, Forbes wrote.
Along with her advocacy for bringing the Super Bowl to the Crescent City, Benson, 78, served as the public face for New Orleans when the big game to town in February.
Forbes also wrote that Benson has been a key player in the NFL’s efforts to make their brand international, becoming the first franchise with marketing rights in France and partnering with the Paris Musketeers of the European League of Football this year.
It’s not the first time Benson has made one of the magazine’s lists. Last month, she was named to Forbes’ list of the 400 richest people in America, joining fellow Louisianan and Raising Cane’s founder Todd Graves.
