Headlining the late afternoon window was a showdown between the 49ers and Buccaneers, as San Francisco and Tampa Bay met in a battle of 4-1 teams looking to stake their claim at the top of the NFC. It was the Buccaneers who walked away with the win, however.

The Niners have owned the Bucs of late, having come into this meeting with a four-game winning streak intact against Tampa dating back to 2019. That included last year’s game in Tampa, which San Francisco won 23-20, but that streak came to an end with the Bucs’ 30-19 victory on Sunday.
The 49ers kept themselves in the game despite being marred by injuries on both the offense and defense, without starting quarterback Brock Purdy, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, tight end George Kittle and defensive end Nick Bosa (out for the year with a torn ACL). Even worse was the mid-game loss of All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner, who reportedly suffered a dislocated ankle, which will end his 2025 season.

The Buccaneers also had an uphill battle on their way to Sunday’s win thanks to some injuries on offense, entering this matchup without star receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin Jr., as well as starting running back Bucky Irving. In-game, rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, who entered the week with the fourth-most receiving yards in the NFL, only behind Puka Nacua, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Justin Jefferson.
Egbuka suffered a hamstring injury in this contest to further exacerbate their injury woes, But thanks to some magic made with receivers Kameron Johnson and Tez Johnson, Tampa Bay managed to pull out a convincing win to improve to 5-1.
