At Westwood Community Church, seats were filled Saturday by worshipers — dedicated to their faith and safety.
Over 230 clergy and ministry leaders registered to attend the “Securing Sacred Spaces: House of Worship Security Summit” on Saturday morning.
The event was a free one-day seminar hosted by Kingswood Security Consulting, which aimed to provide awareness on how to stay safe in places of worship.
Simon Osamoh, the founder of Kingswood Security Consulting, said there has been an increased urgency for safety in the wake of the Annunciation Church shooting in Minneapolis, which killed two children and injured 30 others.

During the seminar, attendees were shown scenarios of multiple active shooter situations led by Jim Theis of Bold North Judgment training, who demonstrated how people should react in different situations.
Also speaking Saturday was Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt, who encouraged safety by creating a stronger bond between law enforcment and residents.
“We need to have conversations, ongoing conversations, while again, building that community trust, so that people can talk to us about when they could potentially see a threat,” Witt said. “You know, it’s a shame that we have some people who will second-guess, like, Is this something I should call in, is this something that I should report? And we need to be encouraging people, if it doesn’t feel right, say something.”
