One of Marvel’s biggest NYCC reveals has been information concerning their next television series, VisionQuest. The highly anticipated miniseries is a sequel to WandaVision and is set to include many of the same characters. Other MCU headliners are set to make a reappearance including Ultron, Friday, Edith, and Jarvis. However, each of these characters will supposedly have human bodies.
The crux of the show revolves around the Vision audiences see at the end of WandaVision. He might have all of the original’s memories, but he lacks the emotions to connect with them. As the title of the series implies, Vision is likely to go on a journey of self-discovery to reconnect with the version of himself that was lost at the end of the Infinity Saga. While most characters, aside from Iron Man, were able to reverse their fate, Vision in pieces until the events of WandaVision.
However, even WandaVision acknowledged that both versions of the character represented in the show were not the true Vision. The show gives an example using the popular paradox, the Ship of Theseus. In the paradox, a ship is repaired slowly after years of use; over time, all of the old boards have been replaced by new ones. Given the fact that none of the old pieces remain after years of care, can it still be called the Ship of Theseus? Philosophers have attempted to answer this question for centuries, and it appears it is time for the MCU to take a crack at it.
Although many fans are excited for the next chapter in Vision’s journey, many fans claim they are beginning to suffer from Superhero fatigue. At this point, the market has become oversaturated with films and series all catered toward a specific genre. While these titles usually attempt to fit into other genres, they are each Superhero-related at their core. VisionQuest will likely just be a drop in the bucket of Superhero titles coming out in 2026. At this point, it will be competing with Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Blade, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Batman Part II, Clayface, and Lanterns. That’s a lot of competition, especially for a character who isn’t considered one of Marvel’s main headliners.
Either way, the NYCC VisionQuest reveal has fans cautiously optimistic. Many wonder what his role might be in the coming films and how Vision might fit into the new chapter of the MCU. He might not have been an original Avenger, but he has appeared consistently since 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Given he has been performing the role for over a decade, fans are eager to see Paul Bettany return as the titular character. Even amongst the consistent superhero fatigue, fans will always make a place in their hearts for their favorite characters.
